WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We’re looking for an outstanding Footwear Knit Designer to combine their experience, problem solving abilities, and creativity to help build the future of Nike Footwear Materials.

The ideal candidate needs to be a highly creative problem solver, who doesn’t settle for anything less than the best design and materials solutions, to meet the needs of the consumer on and off the court. This person will be passionate about elevating the consumer experience by creating materials that are performance and trend-relevant for a range of products, while driving an emotional connection to materials for the consumer through the use of narrative and storytelling.

WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON

If this is you, you will be working on a range of knit designs for FlyKnit engineered uppers. From crafting the future with new knit solutions for brand-new models with a focus on sustainability, performance, method of make and digital platforms to serving the business by supporting FlyKnit projects from conception to transition.

From collaborating with Innovation teammates across various functions, to working with manufacturing partners and communicating directly with athletes, the daily responsibilities of this role are wide ranging, exciting, and rewarding. This opportunity also involves crafting new practices, processes and design applications to increase product value and performance.

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH

You will be partnering with the Nike Design Innovation, Engineered Textiles, Materials and Development teams, in bringing to life innovative new textile solutions through knit design and innovation.

This role does not have direct reports and reports directly to the Footwear Design Director – Knit Innovation.

WHAT YOU BRING

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in design, art or related field; fashion design, product design, industrial design, accessory and footwear design, or textile design (Will also accept a Master’s degree in fashion design, product design, accessory and footwear design, industrial design, or textile design)

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of relevant design experience exemplifying ability to push material design, and/or relevant experience in Textile Design or Footwear Design. Will also accept a Master’s degree and 0-3 years of experience in Textile or Footwear Design.

  • Industrial knit machine handling and/or programming experience

  • Ability to create knit concepts and explore new Materials innovations and technologies and ideas

  • Experience building inspiration/concept presentations, and mood boards for seasonal concepts and direction

  • Understanding of the Footwear Product Creation process, a plus

  • Experience working and communicating directly with manufacturing partners to ensure the accuracy of intent and Materials executions

  • Ability to create and edit files using Adobe programs including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign

  • Ability to express ideas and explore ideation through digital platforms – Gravity Sketch, CLO, a plus

  • Experience building 3D samples and creating mockup samples by hand, a plus

  • Ability to present new ideas or seasonal concepts to small and large groups

  • Positive personality, collaborator, good listener

  • Passion for design, culture and performance perfection

  • Highly organized and self-sufficient
