WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Nike Global Technology’s Line Planning and Merchandising Data Foundation team utilizes modern technologies and methodologies to build and maintain the merchandising platform delivering information optimally to serve athletes' holistic needs with the product they want, when and where they want it! We support the process of planning and executing the product line so that iterative and insights-informed decisions build upon one another, enabling Product Management and Merchandising to see the flow of products in a continuous spectrum, similar to how Nike consumers experience the offerings flowing into the marketplace.

We’re looking for an experienced Principal Software Engineer to design and tackle sophisticated software engineering problems and innovate how Nike does Product Merchandising. This role will lead software design, create rapid prototypes, and build enterprise software solutions for a range of merchandising data platform capabilities that will transform the way Nike plans and merchandises product. Playing a key role in the research and development of technologies, tools, and processes, this individual is a problem-solver who is motivated to learn new technologies, communicate ideas and knowledge, and collaborate with teammates. You will need to be able to work with ambiguity and abstract requirements, developing features quickly in a team context, balancing speed and quality. Working on multiple priorities, this role is for a technologist with experience in multiple cloud and data technologies and/or domains, and has in-depth experience with several languages, platforms, and tools. The candidate must also understand the importance and methods of protecting Nike’s intellectual property and highly confidential data.

WHAT HAT YOU WILL WORK ON

We are a team that designs, develops, and maintains merchandising platform capabilities, to support a Gender and Consumer demand-led offense via multi-month line plans. The Principal Engineer is an integral part in advancing our technical strategy and will lead our team to deliver on that vision. You will also work directly with partners to explore and prove the plausibility of concepts and potential solutions. Along with writing and deploying code, you will be responsible for technical design and feasibility, championing modern patterns and principles, delivering value to the business quickly and without sacrificing quality, and you will lead by example in how we work. A typical day is a mix of hands-on delivery, technical mentorship for the team, communication with partners, and team technical discussions in an Agile environment.

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH

The Principal Engineer will be working across all of Merchandising Technology as well as other Product Design and Development teams, and network and partner across the larger Nike Global Technology organization, and demonstrate technical leadership outside our team as well.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 10+ years software engineering experience
  • 7+ years of hands-on proven experience developing full-stack, scalable web applications
  • 3+ years with modern web frameworks (React, Angular, or Vue)
  • 2+ years as a technical lead
  • Excellent computer science fundamentals in breadth and depth on various technologies
  • Hands-on experience implementing modern software architectural principles and patterns (test-driven development, domain-driven design, microservices, etc)
  • Continuous deployment and automated testing experience
  • Experience with distributed cloud systems technology (AWS preferred)
  • Ability to build and manage relationships with multiple peers and multi-functional partners
  • Experience working in a technical leadership role on one or more agile teams in a product model
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent experience
