WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We are looking for an attorney to join our growing Legal team and assume a critical role to take Nike’s growth to the next level. As with other industry leaders, all aspects of Nike’s business are powered by a dynamic, nimble and resourceful legal team. You are more than a lawyer. You must know the business and be able to provide guidance that is both practical and ethical. This position will include an emphasis on digital transformation, partner management, direct-to-consumer commerce, and regulatory oversight and engagement.

WHAT WILL YOU WORK ON?
As the Legal Director for Japan, you will work closely with cross-functional teams to address regulatory investigations and audits. The position enables, supports, and advises on day-to-day commercial matters/transactions including issues arising with vendors, customers and other partners. You will be handling important transactions ranging from traditional outsourcing, license and project service agreements, marketing projects, marketplace partner business, and supply chains, to evolving areas such as digital commerce with the attendant data privacy issues, retail partnerships and private/public partnerships. You will counsel Nike business managers on a wide-range of legal and process issues associated with our compliance team with internal control processes, and management of business relationships. In partnership with other Legal team members, you will re-engineer delivery of legal services to improve quality, as well as develop and deliver training programs designed to enhance business results and manage risks. You will inspire our business by exemplifying our Code of Conduct, Inside the Lines.

WHO WILL YOU WORK WITH?
Under the supervision of the Senior Director, Japan Legal, you will work directly with business partners who manage Nike’s most innovative programs, as well as other leaders and business managers in the organization. Due to the volume of legal work we handle, you will engage with and from time to time manage service delivery by our outside counsel, and you will partner closely with other Nike business functions. Cross-border transactions will require collaboration with Nike’s excellent team of Legal talent located around the globe.
WHAT YOU BRING
•Juris Doctorate degree or international equivalent, licensed and registered to practice law in Japan and/or another jurisdiction
•Minimum 8 years of legal experience
•In-house experience in a corporate legal department
•Ability to communicate effectively and succinctly in Japanese and English, both verbally and in writing, with technology and business personnel at all levels
•Law firm experience in one or more of the following specialty areas is a plus: Commercial Law/ Corporate Governance/ Employment Law/ Data Privacy/ Digital Commerce
•International experience
•Publicly held, Fortune-500, multi-national company experience
