Description
Will conduct research in Beaverton, OR that enlarges and systematizes a technical knowledge base and generates materials, products and processes that can be successfully and profitably commercialized and produced in the United States and Asia. Will apply knowledge of mechanical and material development and testing procedures to perform engineering duties. Will perform scientific and technological investigations directed toward the acquisition of new knowledge to promote product innovation. Will develop processes and procedures to manufacture and deliver quality and innovative footwear worldwide. Will develop test methods and resolve complex engineering problem of material and design. Will develop and oversee lab strategies and implement technological innovations with factory partners and suppliers. Will guide and support internal customer groups on cooperating design and innovation through product performance. Will utilize research and engineering expertise to explore new technologies, process and products. Will leverage quality management and testing knowledge to work with lab managers to develop and manage the bonding performance calibration program for products, including the setup of a third-party testing lab. Will capture raw material test data from Tier 2 suppliers which help to control and manage product quality. Will work with internal functions, including Product Development, Product Engineering, Materials, Procurement, Apparel and Material Innovation to streamline and simplify material testing to drive speed, quality and efficiency. Will coach and manage quality performance of shoe manufacturing business partners to support acceleration of new partners. Will audit, provide coaching, and validate lab performance. Will lead material commercialization and serve as a key collaborator to define a new end-to-end material commercialization process. Will oversee the development of a standardized information system backbone tool. Will lead global test data management from Tier 2 footwear factories, including working with a primary machine supplier on new operating software to collect real time test data from factories around the world into one single, secured, shareable, scalable, and expandable cloud database. Will develop a footwear production raw material performance database and co-lead system enhancement across several business functions. Will serve as key support for a new Tier 1 factory lab in North America. Will engage in 10% or less domestic and international travel. 



Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in material engineering or chemical engineering. Experience: five years of overall progressive experience in footwear product material, testing, and manufacturing processes. Skills/Requirements5 years of experience: (1) leading and managing ten or more Tier 1 footwear factory lab’s performance; (2) creating lab audit programs for Tier 2 footwear raw material suppliers; (3) engaging in Tier 1 and Tier 2 relationship management through utilizing an understanding of cultures in different geographic areas; (4) leading footwear quality management systems across Tier 1 and Tier 2; (5) consulting on specific product categories for material and mechanical testing; (6) utilizing an understanding of footwear industry standard performance to ensure that quality products are developed; (7) creating footwear testing methods and procedures; (8) overseeing footwear laboratory equipment; and (9) utilizing footwear chemical engineering experience to develop products.
