Overview

We seek an innovative and passionate Senior Footwear Materials Designer to join the GC Express Lane team. This role focuses on creating emotional connections with consumers in Greater China through material updates. Your entrepreneurial spirit will help bring trend-relevant seasonal creative direction at the product and collection level. You will leverage innovative materials updates to deliver an elevated, consumer-relevant brand experience in the marketplace through strategic vision, design direction, and storytelling.

 

In addition, you will mentor designers on the team, collaborate with key partners, and thrive in a fast-paced, close-to-market environment, making informed design and application decisions with efficiency while keeping cost targets in mind.

What You Will Work On

  • Partner with GC Express Lane Design and Product teams to gather in-depth consumer insights specific to Greater China, key cities, and the marketplace.
  • Develop trend-relevant, close-to-market product narratives, focusing on storytelling and the details that convey the "why" behind your work.
  • Drive a high standard of Design Excellence through thoughtful selection and application in line with the Nike Design Ethos and Brand Guidelines.
  • Support projects across various performance and lifestyle categories in footwear, ensuring alignment with consumer needs and market trends.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout the product creation process to meet close-to-market dates and project milestones (including GC Express Lane Design, Global Design, Footwear Development, Material Development, and Product Managers).
  • Adapt to change and respond quickly to marketplace shifts, trends, and business opportunities.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, with 4+ years of materials design experience in an agency or in-house setting, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Proven expertise in materials design and innovation.
  • Passion and understanding of current and emerging design trends and visual culture.
  • Ability to translate insights into authentic narratives and material storytelling.
  • Strong adaptability to change and the ability to prioritize multiple, competing priorities.
  • Excellent visual and verbal communication skills, capable of effectively presenting design intent to diverse audiences.
  • Enthusiasm for design craft, innovation, material applications, processes, and tools.
  • Solid knowledge of footwear product creation and the ability to build accurate tech packs.
  • Proficiency in Adobe CC and comfort with new digital platforms.
  • A commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse environment, valuing varying points of view.
