WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH

You will be part of the Materials Product Engineering and Innovation team, reporting to the Director of Materials Research. You will collaborate closely with other materials researchers and engineers, process engineers, quality engineers, product developers, and innovators. Additionally, you will partner with collaborators across Nike in various organizations involved in cushioning innovation, sustainability, footwear materials, business development, Legal and IP, etc. 

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We’re looking for someone who can connect their deep technical expertise to creative problem solving and deliver against AirMI’s strategic priorities at the intersection of computational modelling with materials and process innovation. The right person for this role brings a broad expertise in leveraging FEA/FEM and other digital tools , as well as materials science and engineering towards making data driven decisions; has an innate ability to cut through noise and focus on the most critical problems; possesses a can-do mentality and a hands-on approach to problem solving; demonstrates strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills; has experience working in manufacturing settings, and in general the ability to connect the dots between science and business.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in one of the following: Mechanical Engineering, Polymer/Materials Science, or related field.
  • 3+ years of industry facing experience.
  • A good handle on mathematical and computational modelling techniques, preferably FEA or similar.
  • Foster and champion diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in the workplace.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Polymer/Materials Science or related field.
  • 5+ years of hands-on laboratory or manufacturing floor experience, or similar.
  • Ability to use custom software packages for quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
  • Experience with root cause failure analysis.

WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON

  • Identify appropriate modelling tools and capabilities and apply them to shift the culture from iterative to predictive.
  • Drive innovation projects towards timely successful launches by implementing existing modelling capabilities as well as developing new capabilities for “Making it Right the First Time”.   
  • Materials characterization to support simulation work.
  • Support failure and root cause analyses of materials related to manufacturing.
  • Develop and documenting thorough instructions for simulation and experimental methods.
  • Keep up to date on the latest developments in the modelling and materials science world; work with internal and external partners to identify new capabilities as relevant to the business. 
  • Mentor and train engineers and technicians.
