WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH
You will report to the Engineering Manager at the Geographies & Marketplace Experiences – India Technology Center. This role will provide you with the opportunity to mentor and guide a team of skilled engineers while taking ownership of backend development efforts for high-performance, consumer-facing applications. As a Lead Engineer, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to design, architect, and scale innovative solutions. You will have the chance to shape the long-term technical strategy of the team and guide its execution while fostering a culture of continuous learning and excellence.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for an experienced Lead Software Engineer to join our growing team and help us drive innovation in Nike's Digital transformation. In this role, you will own the design and development of scalable, secure, and high-performance backend solutions. Your technical leadership will guide both strategic and tactical aspects of backend engineering, while also mentoring junior engineers and influencing the architectural direction of the systems. Key Qualifications:
10+ years of experience in backend software development with a proven track record of delivering high-performance, scalable solutions
Expertise in backend technologies such as Java, Node.js, Python, or similar languages
Extensive experience in microservices architecture, building RESTful APIs, and designing GraphQL services
Deep understanding of distributed systems, database design, and optimization (including relational databases like MySQL, PostgreSQL and NoSQL databases like MongoDB, DynamoDB)
Expertise in cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, with hands-on experience in deploying and managing applications at scale
Experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD) and tools like JUnit, Mocha, Jest, or similar
Strong experience in CI/CD practices, version control, and agile development methodologies
Experience with serverless architecture (e.g., AWS Lambda, Google Cloud Functions)
Familiarity with observability tools (e.g., New Relic, Prometheus, Grafana) for monitoring and optimizing system performance
A proven track record of designing and implementing efficient backend architectures to support large-scale, consumer-facing platforms
Experience in mentoring and providing technical leadership to a team of engineers
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, particularly in distributed teams
Bachelor's or master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
Nice-to-Have Skills:
Knowledge of eCommerce platforms, logistics, or supply chain applications
Familiarity with Kubernetes and containerization technologies
Experience in building data-driven or machine learning applications
WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON
As a Lead Backend Engineer, your contributions will directly impact Nike’s global digital presence by building robust, scalable, and high-performance backend systems that support millions of consumers worldwide. You will:
Lead the design and development of backend systems that power Nike's digital platforms, ensuring high availability, reliability, and scalability
Own the architecture and implementation of microservices, APIs, and backend infrastructure to support consumer-facing applications across multiple digital and physical channels
You will work on building and optimizing microservices and APIs to ensure the stability and scalability of our backend systems.
Drive performance optimization efforts, ensuring fast and efficient backend services
Mentor junior engineers and promote best practices in design, coding, and testing
Collaborate with product managers, front-end engineers, and other stakeholders to deliver new features and enhancements that meet business goals and improve consumer experience
Contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes, tools, and methodologies
Lead and participate in code reviews, knowledge-sharing sessions, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure the overall quality and scalability of backend systems
Stay at the forefront of industry trends, evaluating new technologies and tools that can drive innovation in backend development
